Latvia's Independence Day

Updated: Dec 1, 2022

As part of the Fiddler With Musical Passport project, today we celebrate Latvia's Independence Day.

Latvia's flag has remained the same since the end of the 13th century, and is the second oldest flag in the world, after Norway's.

The legend behind Latvia's flag tells the story of a Latvian tribe leader who was murdered and had his body wrapped in a white sheet. The part he was lying on remained white as his blood stained the rest of the sheet. During the tribe's next battle they fought under that sheet and won. Ever since, they have kept the sheet as their own flag.

Music is a passport to all hearts to get closer to share stories. Let's take each opportunity to connect with each other!

Unity to all Latvians and to all worldwide living beings!
