Teaching Philosophy

As a classical violinist, my life on stage shapes the way I teach. In this short introduction, I share my approach to sound, expression, and musical storytelling — the same principles I bring to my performances.

My path as a violinist began in Romania, where I studied my Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumental Performance at the National University of Music in Bucharest, before completing my Master of Music in Solo Performance at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Alongside my performance training, I completed the practical pedagogy modules in both degrees, which formed the foundation of my work as a violin teacher. I later expanded my approach through Colourstrings certifications at the Yehudi Menuhin School and Kingston University, training directly with Csaba and Géza Szilvay — the founders of the Colourstrings method — whose clarity, imagination, and deep respect for the child’s musical journey continue to inspire me.

The teachers who shaped me — their dedication, their analytical insight, and their belief in sound as a living, expressive language — have profoundly influenced the way I guide my own students. Teaching allows me to pass on this musical lineage with care and intention, helping each student develop a healthy technique, a resonant tone, and a personal connection to music. Over the years, my students have achieved strong results in ABRSM and Trinity exams, earning Merits and Distinctions from Grade 1 through Grade 5, with additional teaching experience at higher levels, including a Merit in the Trinity Grade 5 Music Theory exam. Beyond exams, many have enjoyed performing in concerts, growing in confidence, musicality, and expressive freedom.

For those of you who are interested, more details on this journey can be found in this dedicated blog post.

What I Offer

Every student arrives with a unique musical voice. My role is to help you shape it with the same care, discipline, and artistry that guide me when preparing a recital programme.

Lessons are thoughtfully tailored for students who are:

  • beginning their journey with the violin

  • returning after time away

  • preparing for exams, auditions, or performances

  • refining technique, sound, and expressive detail

  • seeking support with repertoire, interpretation, or stage presence

Together, we create a learning path that supports your growth with clarity, intention, and respect for your individual pace.

My Teaching Approach

My approach to teaching grows directly from my life as a performer — the discipline of daily practice, the search for colour and character in sound, and the joy of sharing music with an audience. These values shape the way I guide each student.

      Our work together centres on:

  • healthy, sustainable technique

  • beautiful and resonant tone production

  • expressive phrasing and musical storytelling

  • thoughtful, efficient practice habits

  • confidence, curiosity, and genuine enjoyment

My aim is to help you develop both skill and artistry — whether you aspire to perform or simply wish to play with greater ease, expression, and musical understanding.

Online Lessons Format

Online lessons offer the possibility to study with me from anywhere, bringing the discipline and artistry of classical violin playing directly into your own space, through Google Meet platform.

All you need is your violin, a music stand, a device with a camera, and a stable connection. After each session, you receive personalised notes to guide your practice with clarity and intention.

Music Theory Support

For those who wish to deepen their understanding of music, I offer support in music theory and musicianship when needed, as these skills strengthen a student’s technical and artistic development.

They are particularly helpful for exam preparation, sight‑reading, and developing a more confident, informed approach to interpretation. Sessions may be taken individually or in small groups.

An individually-booked first lesson is available for new students who would like to experience my teaching style before beginning regular lessons. 'Adriana is an exceptional teacher who motivates her students to reach their full potential and feel unafraid to be challenged and stretched.

My technical ability improved dramatically along with my understanding of what I was playing and ways to interpret the music due to her experience and guidance.

If Adriana teaches you, you're very lucky!'

— M, Violin Student

'She is without question the best I have ever worked with. Her teaching is exceptionally well structured, and she has a remarkable ability to simplify complex technical and musical problems using clear explanations and practical shortcuts. She combines very high standards with genuine warmth, and is one of the most kind and encouraging teachers I know.  Adriana planned everything meticulously, kept me focused, and worked tirelessly throughout the process. We achieved a spectacular result, which we all (except for her) thought was impossible. I progressed far faster than I ever thought I could.'

— B, Violin Student

'Adriana has been a fantastic teacher. The progress has been remarkable. She is diligent, conscientiousness and positive, which always adds to the enjoyment of our lessons.'

— P, Violin Student

'Her teaching method is clear, practical, and full of small shortcuts that make a real difference to progress. She pays close attention to detail while never losing sight of the music as a whole. She is also one of the kindest and most encouraging teachers I have had, which made lessons both motivating and enjoyable.'

— B, Music Theory Student
