Biography

Adriana Cristea is a Romanian‑British violinist known for her expressive artistry and distinctive musical voice.

She has performed at prestigious venues across Europe, the Middle East, and the United States — including the Concertgebouw (Kleine Zaal) in Amsterdam, Carnegie Hall (Weill Recital Hall) in New York, the Royal Albert Hall (Elgar Room), St John’s Smith Square, and St Martin‑in‑the‑Fields in London, among others.

Her career is distinguished by numerous accolades, including First Prize, Special Prize, and the George Enescu Medal at the Remember Enescu International Violin Competition, as well as laureate awards at the Città di Filadelfia, Grand Prize Virtuoso and Golden Classical Music Awards International Competitions. These achievements led to major international debuts in Amsterdam, London, and New York, firmly establishing her presence on the global classical music stage.

Adriana has appeared as soloist with ensembles including Enescu Camerata, the Paul Constantinescu Philharmonic Orchestra, the Beirut Chamber Orchestra, and the Young Musicians European Orchestra, among others. Her concerto debut with the Beirut Chamber Orchestra and her subsequent tour across Italy broadened her artistic reach and connected her with diverse musical cultures.

Her recital programmes are meticulously curated around distinct themes. One such project, Romania With Love, celebrates the works of lesser‑known Romanian composers. This commitment to reviving forgotten voices is woven into her broader programming, which embraces both traditional repertoire and innovative concert experiences.

In 2026 she premiered Capriccio e Taranta for solo violin in the UK, a work dedicated to her by Italian composer and guitarist Sabino de Bari. As a chamber musician, she also performs with the Veles Ensemble (String Trio) in the UK. In 2025 she was awarded a scholarship to participate in the Janoska Style Workshop with the Janoska Ensemble in Vienna.

A graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, where she completed her Master’s degree with Distinction under an ABRSM scholarship while studying with Yossi Zivoni, she previously completed her Bachelor’s degree with Florin Croitoru at the National University of Music in Bucharest. Her artistic development has been profoundly shaped by Alecu Leseanu, whose influence was especially formative, as well as by Mihaela Tomescu. She has participated in masterclasses with Zakhar Bron, Viktoria Mullova, Yair Kless, Rony Rogoff, Ani Schnarch, Eduard Schmieder, David Takeno, and Krzysztof Wegrzyn, among others.

Adriana performs on a 2012 Ole Bull violin crafted by Ladislav Prokop in London.

Her upcoming engagements include concerts across the UK and ongoing projects that continue to expand her artistic footprint internationally.
