I have recently started to play with a Baroque bow and this is a completely new adventure for me.
I am still learning how to use it, and there is so much to explore and read about!
For those of you who do not know, a Baroque bow is the ancient bow that was used to play the string instruments during the Baroque era (cca 1601-1750). It is slightly shorter and lighter than the normal bow, with a slightly concave shape and a sharp elongated tip, like the one in the picture below:
At first, it felt so unusual to hold such a light bow in my hand. I remember having the same feeling a few years ago when I first borrowed a Baroque bow. This time, I have got my own one, after thinking about it for a while. For a long time I have questioned myself whether I should get one or not, and in the end I am glad I have done it. Somehow, I could feel it was a part of my journey and as a result, I have recorded myself playing with it
Why have I chosen to explore this?
For two reasons:
The first one is about developing my way of playing Baroque music, and the second one is about transforming a past rejection into something useful. (More about this in a future post.)
How this journey will turn out, I do not know yet.
What does learning something new mean to you? How would you describe the process and what would you share with others about it?
