My Teaching Journey

My path in violin teaching has evolved alongside my work as a performer, becoming a formative part of my musical life. It grew naturally from the guidance of my own teachers, the challenges that shaped me, and the moments of discovery that continue to inspire my approach today. Over time, I realised that the curiosity and depth I search for on stage belong just as much in the teaching studio — not as separate worlds, but as two expressions of the same artistic journey.

My path as a violinist has been shaped by mentors who offered more than technical guidance; they modelled imagination, patience, and musical integrity. Their influence taught me that teaching is not simply the transfer of knowledge, but a shared process of listening, exploring, and building trust. It is an invitation to grow, for both student and teacher. One of the teachers who shaped my musical and personal development profoundly is the focus of an earlier post, which you can read here.

How I Approach Lessons Today

When I work with students, I aim to create an environment where they feel supported, challenged, and encouraged to find their own voice. Every student arrives with a unique story, and I see my role as helping them uncover the tools, confidence, and musical understanding that allow that story to unfold. Whether we are refining technique, shaping a phrase, or discovering a new piece, I bring the same care and attention that I bring to my own practice and performance.

Teaching has also made me acutely aware of the responsibility a teacher holds in a student’s musical life. The questions students bring, the trust they place in guidance, and the influence a teacher can have on their direction have shown me how significant this role can be. It has reminded me that, especially for anyone who wants to study music seriously, a teacher can be as pivotal as a surgeon is to a patient: the right one can change the course of a life. This awareness shapes the way I approach every lesson, regardless of a student’s age or level.

This journey continues to evolve, and I am grateful for every student who becomes part of it. Each lesson is a conversation, a collaboration, and an opportunity to grow together. I look forward to welcoming new students into this musical space and sharing the path ahead.

If my approach resonates with you, I invite you to explore my Lessons page and discover more about the musical space I offer.
