It took nearly a century for the piece to be composed.
Ave Maria is a result of a musical collaboration between two composers who did not even live during the same time: Johann Sebastian Bach, the famous German organist, and Charles Gounod, a French opera composer.
The roots of the piece lies in the piano part, a well-known prelude that was initially composed by Johann Sebastian Bach in 1772.
The melody of the violin part, was in fact an improvisation made by Charles Gounod at a family gathering in 1852, where he improvised the melody himself while playing the Bach prelude on the piano.
Why have I chosen 'Ave Maria'?
I have had the inspiration to record a calming piece, and this was one of the pieces that I have always wanted to play, because of its melody and harmonies.
What does this piece communicate to you? I am curious to find out your insights.
